Law of Karma

Moksha Sadhana Details

🌟 When Gunas change, Varna changes. Varna comes with Karma.

Law of Karma (కర్మ ఫలిత సిద్ధాంతం)

Every Karma definitely has a result → either in this birth or in the next birth.

  • 🌱 Good Karma (Dharma, Truth, Service) → Good Birth, Higher Varna.
  • 🔥 Bad Karma (Untruth, Cruelty, Ignorance) → Lower Varna, Difficult Birth.

Based on our Gunas (Sattvic, Rajasic, Tamasic) + Karmas in this birth, it is decided in which Varna, family, and state we will be born in the next birth.

1️⃣ Moksha in Present Birth

1.1 🕉️ Moksha Sadhana (Sādhanachatuṣṭayam / Four Qualifications for Moksha)

🌿 (a) Viveka (Discrimination)

Non-eternal – Physical, Mental World

Action: Realizing that worldly objects and feelings are temporary, and focusing on Self-realization.

🍃 (b) Vairagya (Detachment)

Action: Reducing attachment to wealth, possessions, desires, material enjoyments.

💫 (c) Shatkashampatti (Six Virtues)

Six Qualities – Shama (Self-control), Dama (Discipline), Uddārata (Renunciation), Jñāna (Knowledge), Sthiti (Equanimity), Chitta Shuddhi (Purity of Mind)

Action: These bind mind, thoughts, and actions with peace and stability.

🔥 (d) Mumukshutva (Intense Desire for Moksha)

Sacrificial, continuous longing for Moksha

Action: Pushing oneself towards Moksha through Jñāna, Dhyāna, Bhakti, Karma Yoga.

🎯 Moksha – Final Goal

🌟 2. In Next Birth → Varna, Gunas + Karmas

🌈 2.1 Jivatma – Varna: Guna – Karma :

Based on Karma (previous births’ actions, tendencies, impressions) →

  • 🧍‍♂️ Body type (Human, Animal, Bird)
  • 🎭 Experience (Pleasure/Pain, Wealthy/Poor)
  • 📚 Knowledge (Wisdom, Ignorance, Ability to grasp Shastras)

👉 Size of Jivatma does not change, but due to Karma’s influence, bodies, experiences, and knowledge change.

🌿 2.1.1. Body Type

📜 Gita Shloka (Chapter 2, Verse 22):
"Vāsāṁsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāya, navāni gṛhṇāti naro’parāṇi"

👉 Meaning: The body is abandoned like old clothes, and new bodies are taken up. Which body one gets → is determined by Karma results.

🌿 2.1.2. Experience of Life

📜 Gita Shloka (Chapter 4, Verse 17):
"Gahana Karmano Gatih"

👉 Meaning: The results of Karma are very subtle. The same situation → becomes happiness for one, sorrow for another. Therefore, the joys and sorrows we face in life → are all the results of past Karmas.

🌿 2.1.3. Knowledge

📜 Gita Shloka (Chapter 15, Verse 15):
"Sarvasya Chaham Hridi Sannivishto, Mattah Smritir Jñānam Apohanam Cha"

👉 Meaning: Paramatma resides in every heart. By His grace alone knowledge comes to someone, or ignorance continues. Knowledge develops based on past births’ practices, meditation, and merits.

🧠 2.2 Antahkarana: Subtle Body + Causal Body

  • 🌀 Subtle Body → Combination of Mind, Intellect, Chitta, Ego
  • 🔑 Causal Body → Place where Karmic impressions (Vasanas) and tendencies (Samskaras) are stored

👉 Vasanas (Impressions) & Samskaras (Tendencies) are all stored in the Causal Body.

🌿 2.2.1 Storage in Chitta

According to Yoga Shastra, Chitta is a part of the mind, like a memory bank. Every experience, thought, karma → is planted there as a “Samskara seed.” When the time comes, that seed sprouts → appearing as habits and behavior in us.

🌿 2.3 How do they come into the next birth?

When the body dies → the gross body remains here. But the Subtle Body + Causal Body go along with the Jivatma into the next birth. Therefore, past lives’ impressions, habits, talents, fears appear in the new birth.

🧩 Examples: A child being able to play piano well the first time he touches it. The samskara of past practice revealed in this birth. Some children show attraction towards Vedas/Scriptures at an early age.

🌿 2.4 Soul’s Journey After Death

Based on Garuda Purana and Upanishads: At the moment of death → Jivatma leaves the body. Subtle journey in Preta Loka → goes to Yama Dharma Raja according to past Karmas. Decision of new birth → After merits or sins are exhausted, Jivatma again gets a new body on Earth.

🌿 2.5 Time Duration & Examples

New birth may happen immediately → quick entry into a womb. Or it may take years, centuries, or Yugas → depending on Karma. According to Garuda Purana → “Preta stage” lasts from 10 days up to 1 year.

🧘‍♂️ Examples: A virtuous person → enjoys happiness in heaven for some time, then is reborn. A sinner → undergoes punishment in hell, then is reborn. A Yogi/Jnani → reaches higher worlds with merits and stays there until Moksha.

🌟 Summary: After death, the soul → leaves the body → goes to Preta Loka → Karma judgment at Yama Dharma Raja → experience in Pitru Loka/Heaven/Hell → after Karma is over → entry into new birth.

2.6 Varna: Guna – Karma :

According to Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 14):

  • 🌱 Sattvic → Born in higher worlds, good family (Brahmin/Jnana seeker family).
  • 🔥 Rajasic → Born for pleasures (Kshatriya or Vaishya family).
  • 🌑 Tamasic → Because of ignorance and cruelty, lower births (Shudra or even lower state).

🧩 2.6.1 Examples (Varna Change in Next Birth)

Person in this Birth Gunas Karmas Possible Varna in Next Birth
Yogi immersed in knowledge, meditating Sattvikam Spiritual Karmas Brahmin family or lineage of Yogis
Courageous, engaged in governance Rajasam + Sattvikam Protection, Justice Kshatriya family
Business-minded, greedy Rajasam Business, Wealth accumulation Vaishya family
Ignorance, cruelty, excessive laziness Tamas + Rajasam Violence, Alcohol, Falsehood Shudra family

Shashvatam (Eternal) – Atma/Brahman
Ashashvatam (Non-eternal) – Physical, Mental World

🍃 (b) Vairagya (Detachment)

Action: Reducing attachment to wealth, property, desires, and material enjoyments.

💫 (c) Shatkashampatti (Six Virtues)

Six virtues – Shama (Self-control), Dama (Discipline), Uddārata (Renunciation), Jñāna (Knowledge), Sthiti (Equanimity), Chitta Shuddhi (Purity of Mind)

Action: These bind the mind, thoughts, and actions with peace and stability.

🔥 (d) Mumukshutva (Intense Desire for Moksha)

Sacrificial and continuous longing for Moksha

Action: Advancing towards Moksha through Jnana, Dhyana, Bhakti, and Karma Yoga.
